Classic Coastal St. Simons Island Wedding

Planning weddings for couples who are madly in love is always a dream come true, but it’s even more of an honor when those couples happen to be dear friends. I had the great privilege to plan Darby and Jack’s southern coastal St. Simons Island wedding in Georgia earlier this year.

I’m fortunate enough to have been friends with Darby since she met Jack several years ago through mutual friends. Watching their relationship bloom and flourish into the beautiful marriage it is today has been nothing less than a blessing. Darby and I are a part of the same Bible study, and we’ve prayed not only over their relationship, but every moment that led to their marriage.

Every detail of Jack and Darby’s engagement, wedding and marriage was rooted in their faith and family. Darby met Jack through a mutual friend, Eleanor, in our Bible study. Before ever meeting him, Eleanor intentionally asked our Bible study to pray over Jack’s mother, Kate, who had been battling colon cancer for many years. Simultaneously, we had been praying for Darby’s future husband. Amidst all of these prayers, Eleanor and her husband set up Darby and Jack on their first date.

Darby was able to meet Jack’s mother before she passed, and the couple celebrated her life together with a family trip to Maine, a year before they got engaged. Jack proposed to Darby with his mother’s engagement ring, a beautiful heirloom that Darby will cherish forever.

Edward on St. Simons did a beautiful job designing floral arrangements that paid homage to the couple’s relationship and family. White roses, Jack’s mothers favorite flower, adorned Darby’s bridal bouquet, along with greenery picked from her late grandparents’ yard in Vidalia, Georgia.

The couple married at Christ Church Frederica, a historic, quaint parish draped in Spanish moss. Dinner and dancing followed at The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort, a destination that Darby and Jack frequently visited growing up with their families and as a couple.

Not only was the church they married in absolutely stunning, but Jack’s grandmother is a long-time parishioner there. The couple honored the church where they took their vows by thoughtfully featuring it as a hand-painted illustration on their save the dates and invitation suite. Colors by Claire did an impeccable job designing the artwork, while Anne Krepps Design beautifully dreamed up the font pairings, colors and paper style for the invitation suite.

My good friends, Katie with Katie York Photography and Justin with Paros Films, effortlessly captured the day on film and video.

Our color story for the wedding included a deep hunter green, black, white, ivory and a gold-toned yellow depicted in the couple’s iconic getaway car and historic buildings at The King & Prince. Beachview Event Rentals & Design also helped bring these colors to life with rich oak Chiavari chairs for dinner and a classic black and white dance floor featured on the lawn neighboring the beach, allowing guests to dance underneath the stars.
